The Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isa Madaki Ajiji, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest for a second term representing Jos East Constituency in the 2027 general election.
Ajiji attributed his return ticket to what he described as his outstanding performance and consistent engagement with his constituents over the past three years.
Speaking with journalists in Jos, the lawmaker said his emergence marked a significant shift in the constituency’s political history, which he claimed had been shaped by a traditional one-term rotation arrangement since its creation.
He maintained that his re-election bid was based on tangible achievements rather than political calculations alone.
“It’s not just about politics; it’s about real performance and connection with the people,” he said.
Ajiji listed several projects and interventions he said he had facilitated since becoming a member of the State Assembly.
Among them are the construction of bridges to improve access to rural communities and the establishment of a polytechnic in Jos East, which he said had provided free education to more than 100 students.
He promised to sustain the free education initiative until the end of his tenure.
The Deputy Speaker also highlighted his interventions in security and healthcare, including the establishment of a new police division and support for local healthcare facilities to address longstanding challenges in the constituency.
On youth and women’s empowerment, Ajiji said he planned to introduce more employment opportunities and financial support for small businesses.
He also promised further investment in agriculture, including the provision of farming equipment and improved transportation through the distribution of motorcycles.
“My goal is to empower our people. I have plans to procure farming equipment and improve transportation through the distribution of motorcycles,” he said.
He added that he had distributed electricity transformers to improve power supply and provided free fertilisers to farmers, noting that agriculture remained an important part of the local economy.
Ajiji expresses confidence in APC’s 2027 prospects
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the lawmaker expressed confidence in the APC’s chances of winning the presidential, governorship and legislative contests in Plateau State.
He called on his constituents and other residents of the state to support the party, insisting that it was prepared to secure victory across the region.
“We are not just competing; we are winning. I want to call on all my constituents and Plateau people to rally behind the APC,” he said.
Ajiji also praised Governor Mutfwang’s administration, highlighting the need for continuity in government programmes and ongoing development projects.
He urged residents to support the governor to complete existing projects and fulfil the promises made to the people.
The Deputy Speaker further expressed optimism that the backing of the APC national leadership and President Bola Tinubu would strengthen the party’s chances in the state.
He said his ambition was to build on his record in office and attract more development opportunities to Jos East if re-elected.
