The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the upcoming Osun State governorship election will be more than just a state contest, describing it as an important test run ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party made the statement on Tuesday as it inaugurated a 291-member National Campaign Council in Abuja to lead its campaign for governorship candidate, Ambassador Bolaji Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 election.
Speaking at the inauguration held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the campaign team was carefully selected because of its experience, credibility and ability to deliver results.
According to him, the APC is fully prepared to reclaim Osun State and is confident that Oyebamiji will emerge victorious.
He explained that the large campaign council would ensure proper coordination across every part of the state and help drive a successful election campaign.
Yilwatda also described the Osun governorship poll as a “dress rehearsal” for the 2027 general elections, saying the party would approach it with full commitment.
“The APC has experienced leaders and strong political structures across the country. Nothing will stop us from taking Ambo to Government House on August 15,” he declared.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who chairs the campaign council, thanked the party leadership for the confidence placed in him and promised to lead an energetic but peaceful campaign.
He assured party members that the campaign would focus on issues affecting the people rather than violence or personal attacks.
“Our campaign will be vigorous without violence, competitive without bitterness and confident without arrogance. We will conduct ourselves responsibly throughout the campaign,” Uzodimma said.
The APC governorship candidate, Ambassador Bolaji Oyebamiji, also expressed optimism, saying many residents of Osun were ready for a fresh direction.
He said with the support of party leaders and supporters, the APC was confident of returning to power after the August 15 election.
