Nigeria and Sierra Leone have taken another step towards stronger economic cooperation with the launch of the first-ever Nigeria Chamber of Commerce Trade Fair in Freetown.
The event, held on 30 July, brought together government officials, business leaders and entrepreneurs from both countries, all with one goal—to create new business opportunities, attract investment and deepen trade across West Africa.
Representing Nigeria at the opening ceremony, the country’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode, said the trade fair reflects Nigeria’s commitment to using economic diplomacy to build stronger commercial partnerships across the region.
Officially opening the fair, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Alpha Ibrahim Sesay, described the event as a timely platform to strengthen economic ties between both nations. He said closer cooperation would not only boost trade but also encourage investment and support private sector growth.
Visitors at the trade fair were introduced to a wide range of Nigerian products and services, while businesses from both countries explored opportunities to form partnerships, enter new markets and expand existing commercial relationships.
Organisers believe the event will help increase cross-border trade, improve business networking and further strengthen the long-standing diplomatic and economic relationship between Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
The Nigerian High Commission in Freetown said its participation demonstrates its continued commitment to promoting economic diplomacy and creating more opportunities for businesses in both countries.
The mission also reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with governments, investors and the private sector to unlock fresh opportunities for sustainable economic growth and deeper regional integration.
