Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has fixed Saturday, November 7, 2026, for the election of its Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja Chapter.

The decision followed three days of consultations involving the organisation’s leadership in Abuja, traditional and community representatives, elders and other prominent Igbo stakeholders.

The consultations were aimed at building consensus and ensuring a peaceful, inclusive and credible election.

Among those involved were leaders of Ohanaeze in the FCT, Ndi Ndu, the Elders Council led by Chief S.N. Okeke, as well as state chairmen and other key representatives of the Igbo community in Abuja.

To oversee the exercise, the organisation has constituted an election committee chaired by Chief Ejiofor Onyia, a former Vice President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

Other members representing the Global Executive Council include Dr Ezechi Chukwu, Global Publicity Secretary; Charles Nkata, Global Financial Secretary; and Chizoba Iheka, Global Deputy Legal Adviser.

The committee also includes representatives of various groups and interests within the FCT, namely Odozi Nwodozi, Henshaw Ogubike, Professor Charles Nwekeaku, Mrs Ufere Chinyere, Chief Emeka Mbagha and Mr Henry Ugwu.

Speaking during the consultations, Onyia assured stakeholders that the election would be conducted in line with the reviewed constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

He stressed that fairness, transparency and inclusiveness would guide the process, adding that all constitutional provisions must be respected.

The Secretary-General, Sibeudu, also conveyed the appeal of President-General Senator Azuta Mbata, urging Igbo sons and daughters in the FCT to remain peaceful, law-abiding and supportive throughout the electoral process.

He said cooperation and mutual understanding were essential to ensuring a successful election and strengthening unity among the Igbo community in Abuja.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide called on eligible members and other stakeholders to support the election committee and work towards a peaceful exercise.

The organisation said the election was part of its wider efforts to strengthen its structures, promote unity and ensure that its democratic processes reflect the aspirations of Ndi Igbo.
