Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has directed his supporters to vote for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in all elective positions during the 2027 general elections.
The directive was conveyed by the ADC National Vice-Chairman for the North-West, Hafsat Baba, during a meeting of support groups loyal to the former governor in Kaduna State.
According to Baba, El-Rufai wants his supporters to back ADC candidates across the country, including those contesting for president, governor, the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly.
She said the directive was part of efforts to strengthen the party’s political structure and ensure effective mobilisation ahead of the elections.
Baba also disclosed that the coalition planned to create a database of El-Rufai’s supporters across Kaduna State to improve coordination and maintain regular contact with them.
The meeting brought together different support groups with the aim of uniting their activities and coordinating mobilisation across Kaduna’s 23 local government areas and beyond.
ADC raises concerns over arrest of El-Rufai’s supporters
Baba also criticised the reported arrest of 30 political supporters of the former governor, describing their detention as unjustified.
She said the arrests took place about two weeks before the meeting and called on security agencies to remain impartial in carrying out their duties.
The ADC chieftain said supporters of El-Rufai were committed to sustaining what they considered his achievements in education, healthcare and economic empowerment.
She also raised concerns about insecurity in Kaduna State, citing Birnin Gwari, Giwa and Millennium City, among other areas, as places facing security challenges.
Baba urged supporters to remain organised and committed to the party’s political activities as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
El-Rufai was arrested in March 2026 over allegations of financial misconduct involving N579.6 million and $11 million during his tenure as Kaduna State governor.
He has since been arraigned and remains in detention as the legal proceedings continue.
