President Bola Tinubu has assured voters in Osun State that adequate security arrangements have been put in place ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The assurance was delivered by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally in Osogbo, where he campaigned for the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Representing President Tinubu at the rally, Akpabio urged Osun residents to remain calm and come out to exercise their right to vote.
He said the President had directed security agencies to ensure that voters could participate without intimidation or harassment.
“The President is saying that he has put enough security measures in place for the good people of Osun State to vote peacefully come Saturday, August 15, 2026. Nobody is going to be harassed,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President encouraged voters to support the candidates of their choice and assured them that nobody should be intimidated because of the election.
He also warned voters against allowing social media campaigns to influence their decisions at the polling units.
Akpabio said Osun needed a stronger relationship with the Federal Government and urged residents to support the APC.
“Social media is not the same thing as polling units. We are saying, go to the polling unit. You will not be molested,” he said.
The rally attracted several APC leaders and governors, including former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, current National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola.
Other party leaders also urged Osun residents to turn out and vote for the APC candidate.
The election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with political parties and security agencies putting final arrangements in place ahead of the poll.
