Burkina Faso Rejects U.S. Proposal to Accept Deported Migrants

Burkina Faso has firmly rejected a proposal from the United States to receive deported migrants, delivering a public rebuke of Washington’s immigration policy under President Donald Trump.

The military-led West African nation, under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, made its position clear via a televised statement by its Foreign Affairs Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore.

The rejection comes as the Trump administration intensifies its policy of deporting migrants to third-party countries, often those with which the deportees have no direct ties.

While countries like Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda, and South Sudan have accepted deportees from the US in recent months, Burkina Faso refused, describing the move as incompatible with national values.
