The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged residents of Cross River State to give President Bola Tinubu massive votes in the 2027 general election to secure his second term in office.
Yilwatda made the appeal on Monday during an APC campaign rally in Calabar, where he joined Vice President Kashim Shettima and other party leaders to canvass support for the president.
He commended the large turnout at the rally, describing the warm reception from residents as encouraging. However, he urged party supporters to translate their enthusiasm into actual votes when Nigerians head to the polls.
The APC chairman said Cross River had enormous economic potential, particularly because of its strategic location, maritime opportunities and commercial prospects.
According to him, federal infrastructure projects, including railway development, seaport expansion and the proposed nationwide superhighway network, could transform the state into a major economic hub.
He explained that improved transport connections would make it easier to move goods and people, attract private investment, create jobs and boost commercial activities across Cross River and the wider South-South region.
“For Cross River State, the opportunities are enormous. An efficient rail network will improve the movement of people and goods, while functional seaports can expand maritime commerce, create jobs and open new opportunities for businesses. A modern highway network will further connect ports, production centres and commercial cities,” he said.
Yilwatda maintained that infrastructure development remained central to Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, adding that better connectivity would help states maximise their economic strengths and attract investment.
He urged Cross River residents to look beyond the excitement of campaign rallies and consider the long-term economic benefits of the administration’s policies as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
The APC chairman also called on party leaders, members, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, youths and women to intensify grassroots mobilisation by taking the campaign to every ward and community.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the state, Yilwatda said Cross River could play a significant role in securing the APC’s victory in 2027.
He argued that a second term would give Tinubu more time to consolidate his reforms, complete major infrastructure projects and expand economic opportunities for Nigerians.
He urged residents to support the president’s re-election bid, calling on party members to turn the large turnout at the Calabar rally into strong electoral support.
