Opara Family Prepares to Lay Beloved Matriarch to Rest

The family of the late Chief Mrs Christiana Opara, mother of the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Prof. John Kennedy Opara, is preparing to bid her a final farewell in Imo State.

Chief Mrs Opara passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at the age of 83.

She is remembered as a devoted Christian, a compassionate mother and a respected community leader who spent much of her life supporting women, children and the less privileged.

Her funeral activities began with a Requiem Mass held on July 29 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja.

A Night of Praise will be held on Thursday, August 6, in her hometown of Umuopara Nguru Obetiti, Aboh Mbaise, Imo State.

She will be laid to rest on Friday, August 7, following a Burial Mass at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Umuopara Nguru.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren and extended family, including Prof. John Kennedy Opara, former Executive Secretary of the NCPC and Chairman of CSS Global Integrated Farms in Nasarawa State.

The family described her as a woman whose life was marked by faith, service and compassion, saying her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
