Tottenham’s Maddison Faces Surgery After Suffering ACL Injury

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after rupturing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his right knee. The injury occurred just nine minutes after he was subbed on during Spurs’ pre-season clash with Newcastle, forcing him off in visible pain.

The 28-year-old appeared to be in significant discomfort, eventually being stretchered off the pitch with his head in his hands. It is the same knee that caused him to miss the final stretch of last season, including Tottenham’s Europa League final victory. Maddison was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches.

The club has confirmed that he will undergo surgery in the coming days. The setback is a major blow for both Spurs and Maddison, who had been aiming to return to full fitness ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
