The United Nations Security Council has raised the alarm over potential Israel expansion of its military operations in Gaza, noting that the move would result in “catastrophic consequences.
The UN Assistant Secretary General Miroslav Jenča described the move as deeply alarming, warning that Palestinians would be endangered, as well as Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
The warning follows growing speculation that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for a full reoccupation of the territory, escalate the humanitarian crisis and further threatening the lives of both Palestinians and Israeli hostages.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to convene his security cabinet later this week to discuss the possibility of launching a broader offensive aimed at seizing full control of the Gaza Strip and dismantling Hamas.
