The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a man in Edo State, Odigie Moses, over an alleged sextortion scheme involving an Indian woman.
Moses was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, after allegedly posing as a spiritualist with healing powers and using a secretly recorded video to blackmail the woman.
The EFCC said in a statement that the suspect met the woman on Zelle after she sought spiritual help for what she described as life-threatening challenges.
According to the anti-graft agency, Moses allegedly convinced her to take part in a naked spiritual bath while secretly recording the session without her consent.
He then allegedly threatened to release the video publicly unless she paid him money.
The woman reportedly paid $1,100 to prevent the alleged release of the recording.
The EFCC disclosed the case on its official X account on Friday, saying investigations were still ongoing.
The commission said Moses would be charged to court after the investigation is completed.
The case is another reminder of how online relationships and supposed spiritual consultations can be exploited to trap unsuspecting victims in blackmail and financial extortion.
