The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed a restriction on an Osun State Government account less than two weeks before the state’s governorship election.
The account, domiciled with First Bank, was reportedly placed on a “Post No Debit” order through a letter sent by the anti-graft agency.
Documents obtained on Wednesday indicate that the affected account is used for the payment of workers’ salaries.
The development comes at a politically sensitive time as Governor Ademola Adeleke seeks a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party.
The move has already triggered strong reactions from the Osun State Government, which argues that freezing the account could disrupt government activities and salary payments.
The governorship election is scheduled for August 15.
