The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has explained how Nigerians can download their National Identification Number (NIN) slips free of charge through its NINAuth mobile application.
In a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, the commission demonstrated how registered NIN holders can obtain the document from their mobile phones without visiting an enrolment center or using third-party agents. To begin, users must download the NINAuth app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, open it and select “Do More with NINAuth.” They should then choose “NIN Slip” from the available options.
NIMC said users must complete a facial authentication process to verify their identities. Once verification is successful, they can select “Download NIN Slip” to generate and save the official document directly to their devices. The commission described the process as simple, convenient and secure, stressing that the service is free.
The commission launched the NINAuth platform in October 2025 to give Nigerians greater control over access to their personal information across services in sectors such as banking, telecommunications, education and government. In June 2026, it announced that NIN holders could download their official slips through the application at no cost. Information on the platform’s website indicates that the downloaded slip is the same official document issued by NIMC and can be presented to banks, government agencies and other institutions where it is required.
The National Identification Number is an 11-digit unique identifier issued to Nigerians and legal residents after successful registration. It helps establish and verify individual identities and links personal records to the National Identity Database. Anyone seeking to obtain a NIN for the first time must visit an NIMC enrolment center, provide the required personal information and complete biometric registration, including fingerprint and facial capture, before receiving the identification number.
