Catholic Priest Stabbed to Death, Body Dumped on Road in Kogi

Shock and grief have swept through the Catholic community in Kogi State after the lifeless body of a Catholic priest was found on a roadside in Ajaokuta following a brutal attack.

The victim, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, was reportedly stabbed several times by unknown attackers before being abandoned on the street.

Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and hailed from Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area. He had previously served at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Egbe before he was transferred to Ajaokuta.

Residents later discovered his body and it was taken to a morgue in Ajaokuta.

As of Friday night, the motive behind the killing remained unclear and no arrests had been made.

Neither the Ajaokuta Divisional Police headquarters nor the Kogi State Police Command had released an official statement on the incident.

News of the priest’s death has left parishioners, friends and members of the Catholic Church in deep mourning, with many calling for a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
