Presidency dismiss claims that Nigeria is on the brink of collapse

The Presidency has dismissed claims that Nigeria is on the brink of collapse, calling such assertions exaggerated and misleading. In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu criticised a recent editorial titled “Nigeria is Collapsing under Tinubu’s Watch”, accusing it of distorting the nation’s economic realities and inciting unnecessary fear among citizens.

The presidency acknowledged that Nigeria is facing serious economic challenges but maintained that the situation is not as dire as some portray, further clarifying that the claim that 33 million Nigerians are facing hunger stems from a Cadre Harmonisé projection, is not a confirmed figure.  Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications emphasized that the government is taking steps to mitigate hardship through the release of food reserves, agricultural programs, and targeted cash transfers.

On economic reforms, Dare pointed to recent gains in the naira’s exchange rate and ongoing tax and social policy adjustments. He noted that these reforms are long-term in nature and expected to deliver more tangible results by 2026, urging Nigerians to remain patient and not lose faith in the administration’s efforts.
