Super Eagles Slip 1 Step In FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped one place in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking, moving from 44th to 45th.

The ranking, released today on FIFA’s official website, shows another drop for Nigeria, who had earlier fallen from 43rd to 44th in July.

On the continent, the Super Eagles are now ranked sixth in Africa. Morocco leads the way, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire.

Elsewhere, Lesotho, Nigeria’s next opponent in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, dropped to 153rd place while another qualifier opponent, Benin Republic, moved up to 93rd.

South Africa, who held the Super Eagles to a 1-1 draw earlier this month, climbed to 55th, boosting their World Cup qualification hopes.

At the very top, Spain rose to number one after winning UEFA EURO 2024, and it is their first time in the position since June 2014.

The Spaniards replaced Argentina, who dropped to third after holding the top spot since April 2023.
