In a bid to combat recurring cholera outbreaks, the Bauchi State Government has inaugurated the State Cholera Steering Committee and Technical Committee, aimed at strengthening coordinated responses and prevention strategies.
The inauguration ceremony, held today in Bauchi, was presided over by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau, who also chairs the Steering Committee. Speaking at the event, Jatau emphasized the urgency of the initiative, noting that cholera remains a major public health threat in the state, despite numerous interventions by both the government and development partners.
Jatau stressed that the newly formed committees will serve as central coordinating bodies for Bauchi State’s multi-sectoral cholera response and long-term prevention efforts. Their work, he said, will align with the National Cholera Control Plan and the broader framework of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention NCDC.
He also explained that members were selected based on their expertise and strategic relevance to the task. He called on them to prioritize effective surveillance, early detection, and rapid response to potential outbreaks.
