The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially declared two medical doctors wanted for abandoning their duty posts, despite having been sponsored for eight years of specialist medical training by the state.
This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, during a press briefing held in Uyo who said Dr. Uduakabasi Ita Consultant Radiologist and Dr. Mfonobong Bassey Consultant Hematologists were both employees of the state Ministry of Health.
According to him the doctors reportedly left their posts without fulfilling their service obligations, opting to pursue opportunities abroad. The government claims this violates a standing agreement that state-sponsored medical personnel must serve in Akwa Ibom for a defined period to offset the cost of their training.
The Akwa Ibom State government ordered the doctors to return immediately to the Ministry of Health Or refund the full cost of their training.
