Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon stormed to a historic fourth world 1500m title as the Kenyan great extended her streak of dominance with a fifth consecutive at the World Athletics Championship.
The Kenyan crossed the line in 3:52.15, nearly three seconds ahead of Ewoi. She now matches retired Moroccan great Hicham El Guerrouj as the only athlete to win four world 1500m titles.
The 31-year-old added to her three Olympic titles, securing a third straight world championship gold. She controlled the race from the start before breaking clear on the final lap.
Australia’s Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull tried to follow but faded to bronze. Kenya’s Dorcus Ewoi powered through to take silver, sealing a Kenyan one-two finish.
The smiling destroyer, and the world record holder, has now gone more than four years without defeat over 1500m, excluding heats as she remains unbeaten in her last five global finals.
The 31-year-old matched retired men’s world record holder Hicham El Guerrouj as the only other athlete in history to amass four 1500m titles at the championships.
