Tinubu Reverses NTA Shake-Up, Recalls DG and Executive Director to Complete Tenure

In a significant policy reversal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate reinstatement of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), alongside Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, Executive Director of News.

The directive, issued from the State House on September 2, overturns recent management changes within Africa’s largest television network. Dembos, who was first appointed in October 2023, will now return to complete his three-year term.

Likewise, Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, is set to serve out his tenure, which runs through 2027.

The President’s decision nullifies previously announced appointments for key leadership positions within the NTA, including a new DG, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.

This unexpected move underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to institutional continuity and stability in Nigeria’s public broadcasting system.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the development in an official statement released to the media.

The NTA, one of Africa’s oldest and most influential state-run broadcasters, has long played a central role in shaping public discourse across the continent.

This leadership recall signals a renewed emphasis on consistency as Nigeria navigates a changing media landscape.
