The Federal Ministry of Environment has warned of possible flooding in parts of 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, between today, and Saturday, due to forecast heavy rainfall.
In a statement today, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Bokani, listed the states at risk as Enugu, Adamawa, Kwara, Cross River, Nasarawa, Benue, Ebonyi, Niger, Kogi, Taraba, Zamfara, Sokoto, Borno, Oyo, and the FCT.
In Abuja, vulnerable locations include Abaji, Central Business District, Asokoro, Kuje, Lokogoma, Lugbe, Mabushi, Maitama, Nyanya, Garki, Guzape, Gwarinpa, Wuse, and Kwali.
Bokani urged residents to remain on high alert, take safety precautions, and work with local authorities to reduce risks. He also called on state governments and relevant agencies to provide feedback on preparedness and response efforts.
