China to Align New Development Plan with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The Chinese Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria, pledging to align its forthcoming national development strategy with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to deepen economic cooperation and promote shared development.

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, made the pledge on Wednesday in a statement marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The ambassador said China, under the leadership of the CPC, had transformed from a poor nation into the world’s second-largest economy through sustained reforms, long-term planning and people-centred governance.

According to him, China is concluding its 14th Five-Year Plan and preparing to implement its 15th Five-Year Plan, which will guide the country’s next phase of development and support its modernization goals through 2035.

Yu said China’s development model demonstrates the importance of pursuing an independent path suited to national conditions rather than replicating foreign models.

He identified independence and self-reliance, people-centred development, self-reform and continuous theoretical innovation as the key pillars of the CPC’s governance.

The envoy noted that China had lifted more than 700 million people out of absolute poverty while providing universal compulsory education and basic medical coverage for over 1.3 billion citizens.

He also highlighted the CPC’s anti-corruption campaign and institutional reforms, describing them as critical to ensuring political stability, public confidence and effective governance.

Speaking on Nigeria-China relations, Yu noted that 2026 will mark 55 years of diplomatic relations between both countries.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development regardless of changes in the global political environment.

“No matter how the international landscape evolves, the CPC and the Chinese Government have remained unwavering in their commitment to long-term friendship with Nigeria,” he said.

The ambassador said China would continue to utilise the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to strengthen governance exchanges and practical cooperation with Nigeria.

He added that Beijing would align its 15th Five-Year Plan with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda to boost investment, expand economic collaboration and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between both countries.

Yu expressed confidence that stronger cooperation would deliver greater economic benefits to both nations while contributing to peace, stability and sustainable development across Africa.
