The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has announced that the 2025 Licensing Round will officially begin on December 1, 2025, with a strong focus on developing gas assets across the country.
The announcement was made by the Commission’s Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe, during the NUPRC’s Project 1MMBOPD Additional Production Investment Forum held in London today.
According to a statement issued by the NUPRC’s Head of Media and Strategic Communication, Eniola Akinkuotu, the move follows the approval of President Bola Tinubu, who also serves as Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act PIA.
Komolafe explained that the 2025 Licensing Round aims to unlock Nigeria’s undeveloped and fallow oil and gas fields, accelerate upstream production, and bring previously discovered but unexploited fields into commercial operation.
The NUPRC said it will soon release detailed guidelines, including the list of available blocks, pre-qualification criteria, and submission timelines, to ensure a transparent and competitive process for prospective investors.
