The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “party of pirates”, accusing its leaders of blaming the ruling party whenever court decisions go against them.
Morka said the opposition party should stop dragging the APC into its internal leadership crisis and focus on resolving its own disputes.
In a post on his X account, the APC spokesman accused the faction led by former Senate President David Mark of attacking the judiciary when court rulings do not favour it, while praising the courts when decisions go its way.
He argued that the ADC could not claim to support democracy while questioning the authority and independence of the judiciary whenever it disagreed with a judgment.
According to Morka, the leadership dispute was an internal party matter arising from a legal challenge brought by ADC national officers against the David Mark-led faction.
He insisted that the APC was neither a party to the case nor involved in the legal proceedings.
Morka alleged that the leadership takeover by Mark and his associates was carried out in violation of the ADC’s internal democratic processes and that the court had addressed those concerns.
He further accused the opposition faction of seeking to advance former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition through the disputed leadership arrangement.
The APC spokesman said the opposition should accept responsibility for its internal problems rather than blame the ruling party or question the judiciary.
Morka challenges ADC to appeal court ruling
Reacting to Thursday’s judgment by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Morka said the decision against the David Mark-led leadership was a consequence of the party’s internal legal dispute.
He claimed that the ruling nullified the faction’s leadership and all official actions taken under it, including its primary election processes and outcomes.
Morka maintained that the judgment demonstrated the independence of the judiciary and the importance of respecting the rule of law.
He advised the ADC to exercise its constitutional right of appeal if dissatisfied with the ruling instead of making allegations against the APC or issuing what he described as threats capable of creating political tension.
He also questioned the party’s ability to govern Nigeria while struggling to resolve its internal leadership crisis.
Morka said the APC and the Tinubu administration remained committed to protecting democracy, upholding the rule of law and delivering good governance.
He dismissed the ADC’s allegations against the ruling party as unfounded, insisting that the APC would not be distracted by the opposition’s internal disputes.
