Viral HIV Statistic in Port Harcourt Debunked by Health Ministry

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has dismissed a viral graphic circulating on social media claiming that HIV prevalence in Port Harcourt has risen to 86%.

In a statement posted on its official X account, the ministry described the information as false, warning the public against sharing unverified health claims.

According to the ministry, the numbers in the viral post do not reflect any official statistics and were not issued by any authorised government source.

The ministry advised Nigerians to rely on verified data available through the National AIDS and STIs Control Programme NASCP, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS NACA, and official publications from the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry urged the public to ignore the post and stop the spread of misinformation, reiterating its commitment to providing Nigerians with accurate, evidence-based health updates.
