Doro Resumes As Humanitarian Minister, Vows To Lift Millions Out Of Poverty

The newly appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has vowed to use Nigeria’s resources more effectively to lift millions out of poverty.

Assuming office in Abuja, Doro highlighted that over 60 percent of Nigerians are classified as multidimensionally poor, stressing the need for efficient and transparent approaches to change this reality. 

He emphasized his commitment to driving collective action, restoring hope among citizens, and ensuring focused, accountable implementation of social intervention programs.

Addressing ministry staff, Doro urged them to collaborate as a unified team to fulfill the ministry’s mandate. He also pledged to build on existing structures, leverage the experience of the workforce, and introduce reforms to make government interventions more impactful.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, highlighted key achievements, including the expansion of the National Social Register, now covering over 19.8 million Nigerians. He further announced plans to make the upcoming tranche of Conditional Cash Transfer payments public, promoting transparency in the ministry’s operations.
