NIPOST Cuts Logistics Costs by 15% to Boost Over 20,000 Nigerian MSMEs

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has introduced a 15 percent reduction in logistics costs for more than 20,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) registered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). The announcement was made during the 2025 World Post Day celebration held in Abuja, with this year’s theme focused on enhancing local service with global reach.

The initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on small businesses, improving trade logistics, and supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusive economic growth. The cost reduction is expected to help MSMEs expand their market access and enhance competitiveness, especially in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

NIPOST emphasized the critical role MSMEs play in national development, contributing over 48 percent to the country’s GDP. By lowering logistics expenses through its partnership with SMEDAN, the agency aims to create a more enabling environment for small businesses to thrive both locally and internationally.

In addition to the discount, NIPOST also launched the Digital Market Place, an e-commerce platform designed to connect Nigerian entrepreneurs with customers around the world. The platform seeks to improve visibility for local products and services while leveraging NIPOST’s logistics infrastructure to support efficient delivery and cross-border trade.
