Tinubu commissions 13km Kwali road, reaffirms commitment to rural infrastructure development

President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the newly completed 13-kilometre Gomani-Dafa-Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirming his administration’s commitment to closing the infrastructure gap between urban and rural communities.

Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, Tinubu said the project, completed in less than 12 months, reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda’s focus on inclusive development.

He said the road would improve access to markets, schools, hospitals and other essential services for residents of Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji communities.

“Abuja cannot be a city of two worlds, with gleaming districts and forgotten settlements. This road rejects that divide. It connects Gomani, Dafa and Yangoji to markets, schools, hospitals and opportunities. It says clearly that the wealth of this nation belongs to all of us,” the President said.

Tinubu noted that poor infrastructure had hindered agricultural activities in many rural communities, resulting in post-harvest losses. He expressed confidence that the new road would boost agricultural production and transform Kwali into a major food-producing hub for the FCT and neighbouring states.

The President said the road, equipped with drainage systems and streetlights, would improve transportation and security. He urged residents, traditional rulers and youths to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and encroachment.

He also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for implementing the administration’s policy of extending infrastructure development to rural communities, while praising Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, and other officials for ensuring the project’s timely completion.

Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing infrastructure projects across the country.

“The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, we will finish, and we will maintain. From city expressways to rural access roads, every naira of public money must translate into value for the citizen,” he said.

Earlier, Wike disclosed that the contract for the road was awarded in November 2025 and completed ahead of schedule.

He explained that the project formed part of a 43-kilometre road network proposed by the Kwali Area Council and traditional rulers to address insecurity and improve access within the area.

According to the minister, the road is the fourth rural infrastructure project commissioned to mark the administration’s third anniversary.

Wike commended the contractor, Zeberced Limited, for completing the project within nine months, describing it as evidence of the administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure.

“What it shows is that all these things we are doing is not rocket science. It is a demonstration of commitment by this administration and the contractors,” he said.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the 13-kilometre road project was completed in line with approved specifications and quality standards.

He described the project as part of efforts by the FCT Administration to bridge infrastructure deficits and promote sustainable development in satellite towns and area councils.

Managing Director of Zeberced Limited, Adil Adin Kurt, thanked the FCT Administration for its confidence in the company and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting development initiatives in the territory.
