Government Rolls Out Fresh Agricultural Incentives

The Federal Government has unveiled a fresh package of agricultural incentives it says could attract massive investment, create 21 million jobs, and slash food insecurity nationwide.

Vice President Kashim Shettima revealed the measures in Abuja during the FAO National and Subregional Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum. Speaking with conviction, he described hunger as “the great equaliser” that exposes human fragility and shared vulnerability.

According to his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the incentives include a simplified single-window land registration platform, stronger credit systems for farmers, mechanisation on a large scale, and key irrigation projects. These reforms, Shettima said, tie directly to President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda centred on food security, poverty reduction, and rural growth.

The Vice President stressed that irrigation is a game-changer. Nigeria, he noted, has the capacity to irrigate over three million hectares of land, yet less than 10% is being utilised.

He reminded the audience that the 2021–2025 National Development Plan is already geared towards pulling 35 million Nigerians out of poverty while ensuring the nation achieves food and nutrition sufficiency.
