NEMA Leads Search, Rescue And Evacuation Operations In Yola

The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has led coordinated search, rescue, and evacuation operations in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas of Adamawa State following a devastating flash flood that submerged 13 communities on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by NEMA, the torrential rainfall began at approximately 4 a.m. and lasted until 12 noon, causing widespread flooding, displacing residents, and damaging infrastructure.

The incident marks the second major flood disaster in the state within two months. A previous flood event in July had claimed over 30 lives, highlighting the vulnerability of communities in the region.

Among those evacuated were women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, who were moved to designated temporary shelters and safe zones away from high-risk areas.

NEMA officials also conducted on-the-spot rapid assessments to evaluate the extent of the flooding, Damage to homes and infrastructure and Urgent humanitarian needs.

The agency said the operations were conducted in close coordination with state authorities, security agencies, and humanitarian organizations to ensure efficient and non-duplicative emergency response.
