The Federal Government has confirmed that more than 700 individuals have been convicted and jailed across Nigeria for terrorism-related offences, with several other prosecutions ongoing.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this in response to inquiries from newsmen regarding the status of terrorism prosecutions nationwide.
According to him, the Special Court established for Boko Haram and related terrorism cases has conducted more than seven sessions, securing over 700 convictions of high-profile suspects. The court, now in its eighth session, continues to hear fresh cases as part of efforts to strengthen the rule of law in counterterrorism operations.
The minister further stated that the Department of State Services DSS had completed investigations and commenced prosecution in several major cases, including the Owo Church attack, the Nyanya bombings, and the Yelwata attacks. He noted that the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies were also pursuing hundreds of cases nationwide.
