President Mahama Dismiss Ghana’s Chief Justice

Ghana’s President John Mahama has dismissed Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo after an inquiry found her guilty of alleged abuse of office. 

A five-member commission set up by the president concluded that the allegations were substantiated, recommending her immediate removal from office.This marks the first time a sitting chief justice has been investigated and dismissed in Ghana’s history.

President Mahama has pledged to intensify the fight against corruption, noting that allegations ranging from falsifying judicial records to misuse of public funds will not be tolerated.
