Equities trading on the Nigerian Exchange closed higher today as investors increased their positions in insurance and industrial stocks which lifted the market by 0.12 percent at the close of the session.
The All-Share Index rose from 145,880.77 points to 146,055.89 points, while market capitalisation climbed to ₦92.405 trillion naira. A total of 1.28 billion shares valued at ₦24.25 billion naira were traded in 31,155 deals, with Lasaco, Japaul Gold, Sterling, AIICO, and Access Holdings among the most active counters.
Top gainers included Ellah Lakes, which advanced by ₦1.46 kobo to close at ₦16.06 kobo, and ABC Transport, which added 45 kobo to reach ₦4.95. Champion Breweries gained ₦1.58 kobo to close at ₦17.38 kobo, while Prestige Assurance rose by 20 kobo to finish at ₦2.20 kobo, posting a 10 percent increase.
With Tuesday’s performance, the market’s year-to-date return has improved to 41.90 percent. So far in August, the index has gained 4.43 percent, and it remains up 0.21 percent for the week.
