A disturbing incident unfolded a few minutes ago at the Southern Delta University Sports Complex, Ozoro, Delta State, venue of the Nigeria Premier Football League Match-day fifteen clash between hosts, Warri Wolves, versus Nasarawa United FC, slated for 4pm today, Sunday, 30th November, 2025, as thugs brandished live firearms and fired shots into the air, coercing match officials to favour the home team.
The intimidation occurred during the pre-match meeting holding at the Stadium, with the hooligans explicitly warning that the home team, Warri Wolves, must emerge victorious “at all costs” or face severe repercussions.
Eyewitness described the scene as “chaotic”, with the thugs making overt threats against the match referees and Nasarawa United’s officials’ safety.
The targeted officials, understandably shaken, have expressed concerns about their well-being and the integrity of the game.
Football stakeholders are calling on the authorities of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Nigeria Football Federation, and Nigeria Referees Association, to thoroughly investigate this and identify the perpetrators as such violent tactics are highly condemnable and undermine the sport’s fundamental values as the outcome of the game hangs in the balance.
Nasarawa United currently tops the NPFL table with 27 points after fourteen games, whereas Warri Wolves are 9th with 19 points.
It was gathered that the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, and his entourage, who flew in to Asaba, Delta State, a short while ago, from the Local Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Abuja, shaken by the development, had rescheduled his flight to return back to Abuja immediately, after raising concern about the safety of his life and the game.
