Nigeria has expressed strong reservations over the United States’ decision to exclude it from a United Nations event hosted by American rapper Nicki Minaj on alleged killings targeting a specific religious group in the country.
Speaking in New York on Tuesday, the Chargé d’Affaires of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Syndoph Endoni, criticised the exclusion, describing it as “shaving our head in our absence.” The event, held at the UN Headquarters in collaboration with the US Mission, focused on accusations by Washington alleging persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Endoni argued that Nigeria’s absence from a discussion centred on accusations against the country is inappropriate and counterproductive. He added that excluding Nigerian officials deprived the country of the opportunity to tell its own side of the story.
