President Bola Tinubu has criticised the growing backlog of court cases across Nigeria, describing it as unacceptable and a major obstacle to building a just society.
He stated that the nation cannot achieve true justice if its judicial processes remain slow or compromised.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts in Abuja today, president Tinubu urged judicial officers to embrace bold and practical reforms capable of restoring public confidence in the system.
He emphasised that the Judiciary is a stabilising pillar of Nigeria’s democracy but warned that its legitimacy is undermined when justice is delayed or affected by corruption.
He explained that Nigerians have consistently expressed dissatisfaction over delayed judgments, questionable conduct, and limited access to justice. These concerns, he added, demand honest reflection and decisive action.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening judicial capacity, improving working conditions, and modernising infrastructure across the country’s courts.
