The Secretary of the North Central chapter of the PDP, Hon. Francis Orogu, has declared that the fate of the 2027 general elections will not be decided by political coalitions or backroom conspiracies involving traditional and religious leaders but by the strength and credibility of INEC and the Judiciary.
In a Sunday statement, Orogu alleged that electoral processes in Nasarawa State were being undermined by collusion among INEC officials, judicial officers, traditional rulers, and clerics.
According to him, only deep reforms in INEC and the Judiciary can secure free and credible polls.
“The success of the 2027 elections will not depend on how well politicians form coalitions or on the political conspiracies of traditional and religious leaders, but on building a solid foundation through the reform of a disciplined INEC and Judiciary,” he warned.
Orogu cautioned traditional and religious institutions against playing partisan roles, stressing that neutrality is essential if Nasarawa and Nigeria are to have credible elections.
He also urged political leaders to put integrity above greed by rejecting corruption, tackling insecurity, and prioritising the welfare of citizens.
“We must improve and redevelop our electoral safeguards to protect the people’s mandate,” he said.
Calling for electronic accreditation to be enshrined in law, Orogu described it as critical for restoring public trust. He also urged Nigerians to register and obtain their PVCs, calling them the ultimate weapon against poverty and bad governance.
Assuring party members of PDP’s readiness for the next elections, Orogu said 2027 will be “face-me-I-face-you politics,” promising that what belongs to Caesar will indeed be given to Caesar.
