STEM Africa Fest Trains 3,000 children In AI Skills

STEM Africa Fest, one of the continent’s largest STEAM-focused festivals for children, has once again showcased its commitment to equipping young Africans with practical skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics at its 2025 edition held recently in Lagos.

The event attracted over 3,000 attendees, underlining its pivotal role in nurturing Africa’s next generation of innovators, the organizers said in a statement on Monday.

Co-founder and co-organizer Mrs. Jadesola Adedeji said the festival was designed to inspire curiosity and hands-on learning among children.

“Each year, STEM Africa Fest reminds us of what is possible when children are given the space to explore, question, and build.

This isn’t just about STEM; it’s about unlocking potential and preparing a generation of young Africans to lead boldly in a tech-driven world,” she said.

This year’s edition, themed ‘AI for Good’, highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in solving real-world challenges. The festival featured a wide array of interactive STEAM workshops, including coding, robotics, virtual reality, drone technology, engineering, science experiments, and craft activities. Attendees were given the opportunity to explore technology through immersive, practical experiences.

Co-founder of 9ijakids and co-organizer of the event, Ms. Titi Adewusi, emphasized the importance of bridging Africa’s skills gap through such initiatives.

“STEM Africa Fest is more than a one-day event; it’s a gateway to preparing Africa’s next generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and critical thinkers. The skills gap is a shared challenge, and partnerships such as STEM Africa Fest are the way forward to address it,” she said.

A major highlight of the festival was a live artificial intelligence demonstration by Creative AI Technologist Malik Afegbua, the creator of The Elder Series, who showed children how AI can be used as a tool for creativity and storytelling. Adding to the excitement were hands-on workshops in robotics, coding, virtual reality, and drone technology, as well as STEAM-based craft activities.

The festival also featured a raffle draw, awarding tablets and smartwatches to three lucky attendees, creating a sense of celebration and reinforcing the festival’s commitment to accessibility and engagement. The winners included Olayinka Favour, who received a tablet, and Fisaju Champion, who won a smartwatch.

Organized by 9ijakids and STEM-METS in partnership with Argentil Capital Partners, Access Bank, First E & P, Oando, First Bank, Flour Mills, Dorman Long Engineering, and other partners, STEM Africa Fest has reached over 20,000 children, students, parents, and educators across Nigeria and other African countries since 2021.
