Real Madrid Edge Marseille 2-1 in Champions League Opener

Kylian Mbappé scored twice from the penalty spot to help Real Madrid secure a 2-1 comeback win over Olympique Marseille in their UEFA Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday night.

Marseille took an early lead through Timothy Weah, who fired home after Mason Greenwood won possession from Arda Güler. Madrid equalized shortly after, when Geoffrey Kondogbia fouled Rodrygo in the box, allowing Mbappé to convert the resulting penalty.

Real Madrid were reduced to 10 men in the second half after Dani Carvajal was sent off for headbutting Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli during a heated confrontation. Despite the setback, Madrid continued to press for a winner.

Their efforts paid off when Facundo Medina was controversially penalized for handball while blocking Vinícius Júnior. Mbappé calmly slotted home his second penalty to seal the victory. Madrid now turn their attention back to La Liga, while Marseille aim to bounce back in their next Champions League match.
