Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Said Alkali, has announced that the suspended Abuja-Kaduna train service is expected to resume within the next 10 days, following ongoing efforts to repair damage from the recent derailment. He gave the assurance during an inspection of the accident site, noting that work on the affected section of the track was progressing steadily.
The minister stated that four of the coaches have already been cleared, while plans are underway to remove the remaining ones with the aid of a larger crane. He expressed optimism that barring weather-related delays, the line would be restored as scheduled.
Alkali also praised security personnel, railway workers, and other stakeholders for their dedication to ensuring the safety of passengers and equipment throughout the recovery process. He said Nigerian Railway Corporation staff have been working around the clock to complete repairs, while the government continues to provide support to ensure the quick restoration of operations.
