FG Steps Up Campaign Against Crime, Drug Abuse

The federal government is stepping up its campaign against crime, drug abuse, and insecurity with a new strategic initiative aimed at strengthening community safety across Nigeria. Speaking during a joint security press briefing in Abuja, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, outlined a coordinated framework designed to improve public communication and enhance collaboration between citizens and security forces.

Issa-Onilu revealed that the Nigeria Police conducted 326 missions in the past week, resulting in more than 2,100 arrests, confirming the rescue of 175 kidnapped victims and the neutralization of 78 terrorists during the same period. He added that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency carried out 1,572 raids, seizing a total of 2.9 million kilograms of narcotics. 

The NOA Director-General added that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps successfully resolved 720 community-level disputes, contributing to local peacebuilding efforts. He stated that the Federal Road Safety Corps reported 2,838 road fatalities, highlighting persistent transportation safety issues.

The Director-General encouraged Nigerians to play an active role in national security by supporting law enforcement efforts, avoiding the spread of unverified information, and reporting any potential threats through the appropriate channels.
