Councillors representing the 54 political wards in the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State have passed a vote of confidence in Senator Jarigbe Agom, Governor Bassey Edet Otu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing them for re-election in 2027.
The endorsement was made on Saturday, March 21, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the councillors to Senator Jarigbe Agom.
Speaking on behalf of the councillors, the Deputy Leader of the Ogoja Legislative Council and Councillor representing Mbube East, Hon. Sunday Achang, said the visit had two main objectives.
“The 54 councillors gathered here today to do two important things. First, we appreciate God for your life and thank Him for bringing you back to us. We wholeheartedly welcome you into the APC.
“Secondly, we want to affirm that we are grassroots politicians who understand our communities—the terrain, the people, and their needs. Because of this, we are well positioned to communicate and defend the dividends of democracy you bring to our wards.
“We are here to pass a vote of confidence in your leadership, to support your continued political progress, and to commend your achievements in the Northern Senatorial District.
“We also pass a vote of confidence in our dear father, Governor Bassey Edet Otu, and in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The Leader of the Ogoja Legislative Council, Hon. Elizabeth Mbim (PhD), called for the motion to formally adopt the trio. The motion was moved by Hon. Lawrence Ishibi, Councillor representing Angiaba/Begiaka Ward in Obudu Local Government Area, and seconded by Hon. Acha Michael Oko of Otukpuru Ward, Bekwarra Local Government Area.
In his response, Senator Jarigbe Agom expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a significant moment in his engagement with the people of the district.
“I am highly elated. This is a high point of our activities in the North because it reflects the voices of the grassroots. Democracy thrives on a bottom-up approach, and I deeply appreciate your support.
“I want to work closely with you. I want to share in your challenges just as I want you to share in mine. Let us function as one family—if you are open with me, I will be open with you.
“Your needs are not beyond what I can handle, and where necessary, I will seek support from others to meet them.
“I will convey your message to the governor and to the President. Notably, you are the first group of councillors in Nigeria to adopt the President for 2027”, Jarigbe added.
