As humans, we are all aware that they are rules and regulations guiding our actions be it in schools, churches, etc. Thus, the APC is not an exemption.
Whenever there is any contentious issue in the Party, the APC Constitution is there to help us out.
As a founding member of the APC, I am not just aware that the APC has a Constitution, rather I have a copy of the Party’s Constitution and I have read the Constitution more than twenty(20) times.
Despite our interests, we should always fall back to the Constitution for guidance whenever the need arises and be reminded that the provisions of the APC Constitution is Supreme and binding on all Party members, irrespective of your social, political or party status.
*THE QUESTIONS BEFORE US:*
1. Does the APC Constitution makes provision for the position of Acting Chairman? *The answer is “YES”. Article 14.2(iii) of the APC Constitution (as amended in 2022) will help to clarify this issue.*
2. Can an elected Party Official be removed from Office before the expiration of his tenure? Again the answer is “YES”.
*THE OBVIOUS FACT*
No individual is above the provisions of the APC Constitution.
Moreover, no one was born as APC State Chairman and the position is transient. Therefore, it is absurd for anyone to think that he or she must continue to serve people against their wish. The ultimate power in a democratic society belongs to the people.
He is not the first Party Official to be removed from Office before the expiration of his tenure and he will not be the last.
*CONCLUSION*
I really feel for him, nevertheless he is in a very tight corner and he has no choice other than using the exit door. The Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 says it all.
I know the sacrifices and humiliation I endured to build the APC at a time when it was a taboo, especially in the South-South to be a member of the APC. Yet I am not holding any position in the Party and heaven did not fall.
When we formed the APC on 31st July, 2013, he was not even aware that one day he will be State Chairman of the same Party he so much despise. However, he should first of all be grateful to God for the privilege to have served the Party through his imposition in the October 14, 2021 State Congress of the Party.
