The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has called on medical professionals and investors to fully embrace technology as a key driver of improved healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
He noted that innovations such as robotic-assisted surgery have the potential to fast-track the country’s progress in the sector.
Speaking at the unveiling of Nigeria’s first locally accessible robotic-assisted surgical platform in Abuja yesterday, Pate said technology presents a unique opportunity to leapfrog our health system and build capacity that aligns with global standards.
In her remark, the Chief Medical Officer of Robomed Global, Dr. Iyore James, announced the introduction of Robomed Academy, a training programme tailored for Nigerian medical practitioners. She added that Robomed is collaborating with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria to ensure robotics is integrated into long-term medical education.
Robomed Biomedical Engineer, Grace Isaac, and MicroPort Medbots General Manager for the Middle East and Africa, Karim Rod, also stressed that Nigeria has both the human resources and technical potential to lead the advancement of robotic surgery in Africa.
