NPFL reprimands Shooting Stars over social media posts.

The Nigeria Premier Football League has issued a formal reprimand to Shooting Stars Sports Club’s Sporting Director, Tobi Adepoju Samuel, over social media posts deemed false and damaging to the league’s leadership.

The club official had used his X account to allege that the NPFL Chairman, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, approved substandard stadiums with unsafe pitches, which he claimed had contributed to player injuries.

League authorities dismissed the allegations, stressing that stadium approval does not fall under the chairman’s responsibilities but is handled through the Nigeria Football Federation’s club licensing process. They warned that the public accusations risked misleading fans and undermining confidence in the league’s administration.

In the reprimand letter, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi faulted the Shooting Stars official for circulating misinformation that he said could damage the reputation of both the chairman and the league. The league emphasised that such claims, already amplified by online platforms, were unfounded and capable of portraying its leadership in a negative light.
