The Lagos State Police Command has suspended an Egungun festival scheduled to take place this Friday and Saturday in the Oregun area over security concerns. The decision follows the circulation of posters and online messages warning residents to stay indoors during the event.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said several individuals linked to the group known as “Oje Parapo of Oregun” have been arrested for distributing materials considered capable of inciting fear and violating the rights of residents. The commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, ordered an immediate halt to the festival, insisting that no activity threatening public order would be allowed.
The command also referenced a similar incident in Mafoluku, Oshodi, where 12 people were arrested on November 23 for circulating provocative publications. All suspects from both cases are being investigated and will be charged once inquiries are concluded.
