Genevieve Nnaji Slams Viral Post Urging Igbo Men to Marry Outside Their Community

Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji has condemned a viral social media post advising Igbo men to avoid marrying Igbo women and instead choose wives from other African countries.

The controversy began after a photo circulated online showing a Rwandan woman reportedly engaged to a man from Anambra State. Resharing the photo, an X, user wrote that Igbo men should marry women from East Africa, particularly Rwanda rather than Igbo women, whom he accused of making false sexual assault allegations.

Responding to the post, Genevieve criticised the message as an attempt to avoid accountability. Another user argued that the original post targeted false rape accusers, accusing the actress of ignoring the real issue. But Genevieve maintained her stance, countering that it was wrong to generalise and stigmatise all Igbo women. Genevieve’s comments quickly gained attention, with many online users praising her for calling out harmful stereotypes and defending Igbo women.
