The Federal Government has announced plans to roll out 500 Compressed Natural Gas CNG refuelling stations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory within the next three years, as part of Nigeria’s transition to cleaner and more affordable fuels.
According to a statement released on Sunday by MDGIF Executive Director, Oluwole Adama, the initiative follows the conclusion of talks between the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund MDGIF and leading Chinese manufacturer Endurance Group,.
Adama said the discussions produced an agreement to create a government-backed Special Purpose Vehicle, supported by MDGIF, the Bank of Industry, Endurance Group, and Séquor Investment Partners. The SPV will oversee the deployment of integrated CNG stations, develop LCNG supply infrastructure, and provide CNG and LNG transportation trucks to establish a national virtual gas pipeline.
Adama added that the project would expand access to refuelling points and eliminate the long queues currently seen at existing CNG stations, improving logistics and ensuring uninterrupted supply.
