Lagos Issues Two-Week Ultimatum to Trade Fair Complex Developers Over Building Approvals

The Lagos State Government has given property owners and developers within the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo a two-week deadline to regularise their building approvals in accordance with existing physical planning laws. The ultimatum, announced by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, requires affected parties to approach the ministry to ensure compliance with the state’s development regulations.

Olumide cited the deterioration of the Trade Fair Complex into a hub of unregulated and potentially hazardous structures as justification for the enforcement. He warned that such developments pose serious risks to public safety and emergency response efforts.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining orderly, sustainable urban growth as outlined in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11.

Upon the expiration of the two-week grace period, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) will resume demolition of structures that remain non-compliant. The commissioner called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the state’s efforts to create a safer and better-planned Lagos, urging developers to regularise their building status without delay.
